In a landmark event “Samudra Se Samriddhi”, Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, today inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of development projects worth over 34,200 crore in Bhavnagar, Gujarat, marking a giant leap forward in India’s maritime and infrastructure growth.
The grand ceremony witnessed the presence of several eminent leaders, including Shri Bhupendra Patel, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Gujarat; Shri C.R. Patil, Hon’ble Union Minister of Jal Shakti; Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, Hon’ble Union Minister for Ports, Shipping & Waterways; Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Hon’ble Union Minister of Labour & Employment; Shri Shantanu Thakur, Hon’ble Minister of State for Ports, Shipping & Waterways, along with senior dignitaries and officials.
Deendayal Port Authority Projects
During the event, the Hon’ble Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for transformative projects worth ₹2,400 crore of Deendayal Port Authority (DPA), Kandla. These projects include:
Development of a Multi-Purpose Cargo Berth off Tuna-Tekra,
Establishment of a Green Bio-Methanol Plant,
Installation of a Static Anti-Drone Technology System for surveillance and security of the Port Area at Kandla,
Expansion of road infrastructure, construction of oil jetties, and various other civil works.
Mega Port Terminal at Kandla
On the sidelines of the event, Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi was briefed by Sushil Kumar Singh, IRSME, Chairman DPA, about the upcoming Mega Port Terminal at Kandla. The project, featuring a 6 km waterfront, is poised to add a massive 135+ Million Metric Tonnes Per Annum (MMTPA) of cargo handling capacity. This ambitious development is set to significantly bolster India’s maritime capabilities, further strengthening the nation’s role in global trade.
As part of the function, a LIVE screening of the “Samudra Se Samriddhi” event was organized at the Administrative Office Building, Gandhidham. The occasion was graced by Shri Vinodbhai Chavda, Hon’ble Member of Parliament (Kutch); Smt. Maltiben Maheshwari, Hon’ble MLA (Gandhidham); senior officials of the Port and a large gathering of employees.
The projects unveiled today embody the vision of “Transforming Maritime Sector”. By integrating sustainability with scale and green energy with port modernization, these initiatives will act as a catalyst in realizing the Prime Minister’s vision of a Viksit Bharat by 2047.
